Hemlock Grove (SPOILER ALERT)

Today, I thought I'd talk about the new Netflix show, Hemlock Grove.  First, I kind of wanted to discuss Netflix and their series.  I think I kind like the new format that Netflix is offering.  Currently, Netflix has three different TV shows exclusive to them.  This is a first as far I know, offering series exclusive to a company not available through your cable company.  This gives Netflix free reign to do basically anything they want, be it different lengths of episodes, profanity, nudity, gore, and most interesting, making the entire season (13 episodes or whatever amount they decide) available all at once.  It's pretty cool to be able to watch as many episodes as you want in one sitting.  I am very interested to see how or if this effects award shows.  Will they recognize a non-cable company series?  Netflix's House of Cards is an amazing show starring Kevin Spacey.  If I was voting for best actor, Kevin Spacey could easily be at the top of the list for his performance in House of Cards.

On to Hemlock Grove....
This is another werewolf/ vampire show.  I know, I know....everyone groans when they hear that, but at the same time, people are still eating these shows up like mad!  I can say with 100% surety that I have followed the whole genre for years, long before Twilight/ True Blood/ Vampire Diaries.  I haven't gotten bored with it yet!  In Hemlock Grove, a family (well, mother and son) of gypsies moved into the town Hemlock Grove.  Immediately, a girl from school took interest in him for research and called him out as a werewolf.  By the time school started, everyone had heard the rumor.  Meanwhile, on the "other side of the tracks" is Roman Godfrey.  He is the rich, entitled son of the deceased heir of Hemlock Grove.  His family started the steel business in Hemlock Grove and when that business died down, Roman's father switched to bio tech development.  Roman is also supernatural in a way that he doesn't quite understand until the end of the season.  There are murders happening in Hemlock Grove that leave everyone scratching their heads.  Roman and Peter find an easy friendship after Peter lets Roman watch him change into a werewolf.  They come to find out that the murderer is a "vargulf," a rogue werewolf.  Roman and Peter team up to solve the mystery (among other things, including discovering more info about themselves).

I liked Hemlock Grove.  I won't say it was the BEST show on TV, there were definite moments where it was a little slow and a few different plot lines I'd have liked to see fleshed out a little more, but overall, I thought it was perfectly addictive.  I watched the whole series in 24hrs or so.  I stayed up late, dragged the ipad everywhere as I did laundry, dishes and cooked dinner, and even skipped naps!

Alright...now to the final reason I enjoyed Hemlock Grove.....Bill Skarsgard!  You all now I have a HUGE obsession with Alexander Skarsgard.  Bill is one of Alex's little brothers.  I have a lot of love for the whole Skarsgard clan (and there is a bunch of them).  Aside from having amazing genes, talent runs rampant through the household as well.  Bill is 22 and just breaking into the American scene.  Honestly, I know this is hard to believe, but if Bill was just a little bit older, I would almost be comfortable saying he is the hottest Skarsgard.  He's tall, lanky, and has amazing hands like Alex.  You can definitely tell they are brothers by their mannerisms.  Bill has a little bit darker, creepier look to him.  I love it!  To me, watching Hemlock Grove was worth it for nothing more than having a chance to enjoy a new Skarsgard son.  ;)  By the way, the whole entire time I was watching Hemlock Grove, I was hoping that Bill got to keep his wardrobe.  He wore the hell out of it!!  ;)

List Time!

I can sit here and apologize and go on and on about how bad I've been at keeping up with my blog, but really, do you want to hear it?  I don't even want to write it!  Hahaha.  So onward....I had a good idea for a post and here I am....nuff said!

The other day, I was reading an article about the top 100 vocalists of Australia.  Yeah, I know, random...but it got me thinking....what would be my top 10 vocalists (I can't do 100, I'd lose interest). I may even break it down to top 5 men and top 5 women.  I like that.  OK...now I have to give it some thought.  Hey!  I had the idea to make the list, just not necessarily the list.

Top 5 Men Vocalists
1. Michael Hutchence- INXS (his mention in the article is what interested me in the first place)
2. Matt Bellamy- Muse (we all know my obsession with his voice)
3. Bono (does it get better than Bono??)
4. Adam Duritz- Counting Crows
5. Jim Morrision- Doors

Runners-Up: Francis Black- Pixies and Robert Smith- The Cure....Trent Reznor too!

Top 5 Female Vocalists
1. Karen Carpenter
2. Janis Joplin
3. Natalie Merchant
4. Delores O'Riordan- The Cranberries
5. Poe

Runners-Up: Mama Cass Elliot and Florence Welch

So far, this is what I've come up with....I may still change my mind.
